Childhood Movies That Are Being Remade

Today I found out that Jumanji is getting a sequel featuring Kevin Hart and Dwayne ‘’’The Rock’’ Johnson. With this being in my top 10 movies, I decided to look if any other of my favorite movies are being remade.

Jumanji (1995)

As mentioned before, Jumanji is getting a sequel with The Rock and Kevin Hart. With this being one of my all-time favorite movies I’m curious how they will manage to pull this one off. Dwayne Johnson says that they will reimagine the original book and come with their own version.

Currently it’s not been received well in the forums such as Reddit and IMDb. On those websites the general opinion is that they shouldn’t even try. I even found a couple of petitions on to stop the production of the movie, which I think is the purest form of overreaction.

As for me, I will be holding back my judgement until I at least see a trailer and the rest of the cast.

Currently only the following actors are revealed to star in the movie: Jack Black, Nick Jonas, Tom Holland, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.

Release date: July 2017

The Goonies (1985)

This is one of those movies that probably made you want to go on an adventure with your friends. It certainly had that effect on me as a young kid. 2 years ago director Richard Donner confirmed that they are working on a sequel to the first movie.. And according to recent news they are still trying to find the best story to create the sequel. Original actors of the movie, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman said that they would be open to play in the sequel.

Release date: Unkown.

Disney Movies (Live-action)

Disney has confirmed that they are going to release live-action reboots of their animation movies. So far they have confirmed that from 2017 until 2019 they will release live-action versions of movies such as: Cruella with Emma Stone, Mary Poppins sequel with Emily Blunt, Tinker Bell with Reese Witherspoon and Jungle Book 2!

Release dates: Scheduled from 2017 until 2019.

The Mummy (1999)

This is one of the movies that made a lot of kids want to become an adventurer. Instead of Brendan Fraser, we’re going to see Tom Cruise play the main guy. Personally I can’t see Tom Cruise replacing Brendan Fraser because I don’t see him as a naturally funny person. But I’m open minded to see where they take it. The movie is done and in the process of being released.

The movie will star: Tom Cruise,Russell Crowe, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Annabelle Wallis

Release date: June 9, 2017.

Power Rangers (1993)

This was announced in 2014 and will finally be coming out next year on March 24th. I remember hurting my self as a young boy trying to re-enact the Power Rangers, so this one means a lot to me. This movie will be a reboot and re-imagining of the original movie that was made in 1993.

The movie will star: Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Elizabeth Banks as the villian ”Rita Repulsa” and a fresh new cast of Power Rangers.

Release date: March 24th, 2017.

I will be looking forward to watching all these movies and I’m hoping so much that they won’t ruin the memory of the originals.

I’d like to see if you guys agree or disagree with some of these reboots/sequels!

  1. All of these will probably do well because they seem to have good box office actors.

It’ll be interesting to see The Mummy with Tom Cruise and not Brendan Fraser, as you pointed out. However, Tom Cruise always gives an audience their money’s worth. Who knows? It might become a new fave!
